From 1 April 2011, for accounting periods ending after 31 March 2010, XBRL format will replace PDF for accounts and computations. The most affected will be small companies and the self-employed. There is no converter from Excel files to XBRL format.

HMRC and Companies House have both adopted the same iXBRL format. A few commercial software packages are iXBRL-compliant.
