The fibula, commonly known as the calf bone, is the thinner, lateral bone of the lower leg that runs parallel to the tibia. Structure/Location- the Fibula is not for weight-bearing, but for proximal structual-support. At the proximalhead of the fibula, it articulates with the tibia at the tibiofibular joint. At the Distal part of the Fibula, the latteral maleolus articulates with the talus forming the talocrural joint. Function-Muscles insert and originate via the fibula, also provides anchor and support for the calf. ROM's at the talocrural joint: planterflexion, dorsiflexion. Disorders- fibular hemimelia, fibula fractures, and osteoporosis. VALEN
The Knee Joint is the largest joint in the human body, connecting the femur, tibia, and patella bones. Strucure/Location- Muscles, veins, arteries, cartliage, and ligaments surround and stablize the knee joint. The miniscus stabilize the knee: the ACL, PCL, MCL, and LCL. Bursa sacks protect the knee cap bones and muscle fibers, while synovial fluid sacks support only the bones of the knee. Function- the knee joint functions primarily as a hinge joint, allowing flexion and extension of the leg, some internal/external rotation, abduction/adduction of the leg. The knee articulates at the Patellofemoral joint and Tibiofemoral joint. Disorders- dislocations, fractures, minisci tears, arthritis, and more. VALEN
