Race

Our goal is to create a new race team aimed at giving kids that have the talent, but not the funding, the opportunity so get on the track and showcase thier skills. We race dirt stock cars around the midwest. We were just 3 guys from the same town that competed against each other all summer. We became great friends and decided to combine our efforts into one single team. We still race all 3 cars but we all work out of the same shop and share knowledge and equipment and have had a pretty good performance increase since teaming up. Our kids race go karts. We have two karts we haul around and turn the kids loose on wherever we can. They actually do pretty well for a couple of five year olds. Since the kids have been racing there have been a few of their competitors have to quit racing because of funding issues. We've also noticed a ton of kids at the track that would love a chance to race but their families just don't have the money to do it. We want to build a second team that gives some of these kids a shot. Our plan, if we get the funding, is to buy 3 or 4 karts and all the equipment and spare parts and pieces necessary for a legitimate, competitive team and give these kids the opportunity to get into racing. How would we decide which kids get the chance to race the karts? The plan is to rent out the indoor karting facility for a day. Take about 100 of these kids in there and have all of them run 4 or 5 races, average their times from each race, and then the top 15-20 of them get a chance to do the same thing in the racing karts. The top 3 or 4, however many karts we have available, then get the chance to go racing for the season. We'd fund the continued operation of the team through our businesses and getting additional sponsors to hop on board. We'd set up and account for each driver and 100% of their prize earnings would go into the account and at the end of the season that money would be used to purchase a kart and suit and helmet and everything and they can continue their racing careers with their own equipment the following season. We would then repeat the tryout process and give a few more kids the same opportunity the next season. All of this with written permission from the parents of course.
